New York, NY – On Wednesday, November 2, 2011 Assemblymember Linda B. Rosenthal (D/WF-Manhattan) will host a Speak Out on Hydrofracking, one-part panel discussion, one-part town hall to help educate and mobilize citizens about the dangers and repercussions of hydrofracking to New York City and the State.
The forum will be held at Congregation B'nai Jeshurun, 257 West 88 Street, from 7-9 pm and will feature a panel discussion by leading environmental experts. It will include a guest appearance by actor and well-known anti-fracking activist Mark Ruffalo. The forum will be filmed, and Assemblymember Rosenthal will send all comments made by attendees to the New York State Department of Environmental Conservation (DEC) to become part of the public record.
The DEC has proposed to open nearly 85% of the Marcellus Shale to natural gas drilling using hundreds of unidentified chemicals. The plan is highly controversial and potentially devastating to our environment and public health. The public comment period on the plan began in September and will continue until December 12, 2011.
